Frequent Attenders: Unlocking Unconditional Positive Regard

-  a story of compassion, empathy and practical support

We invite you to join us for the second national Frequent Attenders event - a follow on meeting from our launch event in April.

This event continues the conversation around the multi-agency programme of work underway in Wales to provide a better support system for Frequent Users of emergency and unscheduled care services, through having a more in depth understanding of their complex needs (service, psychological and emotional) and finding patient led solutions based on Unconditional Positive Regard for the patient.

The all-Wales programme is made up of teams across health, local government, police and probation, fire and rescue, and third sector organisations who are working collaboratively, and across geographical boundaries to unlock the complex avenues of care and practical support that are needed for patients who frequently access our multi-agency services.

Key to this session will be a more in-depth exploration of the psychology and psychological behaviours of frequent users.  Carl Rogers, a psychologist who agreed with the main assumptions of ‘Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs’ added that for a person to "grow", they need an environment that provides them with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and understood) – (Saul McLeod, Simply Psychology).

A series of case studies will also offer various insights into Frequent Attender Services across Wales, and group work will allow for discussion around this, coupled with ongoing work on the network relationships

The event is open for any teams working with frequent attenders into Unscheduled Care (both primary and secondary care), including all partner agencies across statutory, non-statutory, third Sector and voluntary agencies.

Well done again for such a stimulating and successful conference last week. Was great to hear about the work that has already been getting such good outcomes and to think about how we can build on where we are so far.
